Past Years’ Conferences

15 February 2009

The Charlottesville Family History Center (FHC)  and Central Virginia Genealogical Society (CVGA) have sponsored genealogy and family history conferences since its creation in 1970.  Annual conferences with a broader range of topics began in 2007.  These all-day events have featured area genealogy enthusiasts, family history consultants from the FHC, and recognized professional genealogists.  The 2008 Conference was attended by more than 250 people from all over Virginia and as far away as Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Classes and courses have covered a variety of topics including Beginning Genealogy 101, Immigration and Military Ancestor Research, Internet Research, Census Records, Technology.  You can view the past conference material in PDF format on this website under FHConference Links.

Another popular feature at the conference includes displays of family history memorbilia ranging from unique to amazing.  Conference attendees are invited to bring contributions to these displays.  The displays are constantly monitored for security and items are checked in and out by claim ticket.
